Nathaniel Talbot - Raised in the wooded foothills southeast of Portland, OR, the big firs and wide farmscapes of childhood made a life-long impression on Talbot’s songwriting. “The natural setting imprinted on my sense of self, and populated my brain with the imagery and storylines that would later manifest in my songwriting.” He began learning piano at age seven, started a punk rock band at thirteen, and quickly thereafter began steeping himself in guitar-driven sounds of Kelly Joe Phelps, Elliott Smith, Bill Frisell and other Pacific Northwest heroes. Over the next 15 years, Talbot honed an approach to songwriting and storytelling, driven by his complex fingerstyle guitar work, which earned him a distinct place in the northwest folk scene.
“Talbot pushes our understanding of our selves through the intensity of his songcraft. Even the instrumental tracks are enough to make you stop what you’re doing and listen.” – No Depression
“Challenging what folk music is capable of, Talbot’ – SEATTLE WEEKLY
Katie Kuffel expresses an empowering depth and self-awareness throughout her newest album. Topics on Alligator range from intergenerational trauma viewed through kid glasses, a song about how a volcano would experience time, seasonal depression, and about her own disability. No matter the scale of her theme, Katie finds the universal thread to captivate her listener, reminding us we’re all human, and to embrace the messiness inherent in being alive during this turbulent, modern era.
“The balladry of Seattle singer/songwriter Katie Kuffel contains the sort of lived-in elegance that makes you feel you’ve been wearing her music all your life without even realizing it.” – Douglas Martin, KEXP
“Full of heart, vulnerability, and smoldering soul” – Mitch Mosk, Atwood Magazine
The Blue Tide is the acoustic blues collaboration of lifelong friends, Daniel Rapport and J.D. Lenoir, who have been playing blues together since the days of their high school band with the same name. As the band was working on their recently released “Plague Blues” album—a recording of all original songs dealing with personal struggles and many social issues of our time—J.D.’s father made a stunning discovery: Their family had been enslaved on the same plantation as the family of the legendary blues artist, J.B. Lenoir, one of the most prolific social commentary blues musicians of all time. This revelation inspired their single, “Where I Got My Name (Down in Mississippi)” and has helped guide the band creatively. The Blue Tide’s sound is rooted in the delta blues legacy while their lyrics and attitude are firmly in the present.
“The Blue Tide is…dazzling…Tender…Thought provoking…the feel of Alan Lomax field recordings…music rooted in the classic delta blues tradition.” — Bluesletter Magazine
