The Rabbit Box is a cozy intimate hub nestled, underground in the Corner Market and Once on the 2nd floor of Hotel York, which survived its collapse in 1905. The 2400 sq. ft space was included in the 9 acres of Pike Place Market in 1912. If you have been to The Rabbit Box, now occupying the historic site, you have seen the love and effort that went into the space and experienced the warmth and energy of its charms and understand why we are doing all we can to save the arts and artists that grace our stage!
In 2021, We stepped out of quarantine into an unknown climate for venues, bars, restaurants & the arts. The timeline of our opening although seemingly ideal was unfortunate. Being a new endeavor during the pandemic, younger than two years, and having no history for two years prior, we are ineligible for grants and other city loans and support, we have been riding the wave of inflation, interest rates, insurance, and labor increase. Fast forward to today in the light of post-pandemic reality, our new venue is struggling. Being downtown has its challenges & the demographic of our location suffers from the absence of a healthy nightlife. We want to change that and lay the lines for an additional cultural space in our city.
We are seeking to raise funds to help us get through this phase, pay off some of the incurred debts, and give us some time to bring some awareness to our city, its people, and our community. We hope to have a future to keep the space active, add future employees & create more programming through extended hours to include morning coffee, special events, membership & collaborations with other organizations interested in keeping Seattle vibrant in the arts.
We must keep our spaces alive. The discussions are happening but they need to widen. You can support the venue here, come into the space, buy tickets, have a party, or send loving thoughts. It will be seen. We are working on all cylinders to save yet another venue in trouble.
Sincerely, Robynne Hawthorne & The Rabbit Box
